The Story Sisters by Alice Hoffman

Although I had enjoyed the previous novel by this author, I wanted to see if I could find something darker and more in the adult realm by her so I chose this one. Here is my review:

This is a story about the Story Sisters: Elv, Meg, and Claire. An incident with Elv and Claire causes all 3 of their worlds to fall apart and they withdraw into a magical world where they speak a language that no one but them knows about. As the girls grow up, we see them all change both as individuals and as sisters until an event changes everything – including their ties to each other.

This book is dark and haunting. It hints at the first unspeakable event throughout the whole book and how it affected all of the girls. Each sister’s life path is traced and you can see how their experiences shaped their decisions. In the end, I really enjoyed the book. It was moving and sad and beautiful all at once. If you are looking for a tragic and deep read, this is definitely the book for you!
